Congratulations to Joey Cheek from Greensboro, NC for his gold medal in the 500 sprint short track speed skating.

It has finally been cold here, January was warm but NC actually had snow for a few days in a row. Just in the mountains but I did see flurries near Raleigh/Durham and Greensboro when traveling over the weekend. But now, we are back to the 60s.

I mentioned that Uncle Owen from Star Wars died yesterday. He didn't have that big a role but I still remember the first time seeing Star Wars and hating the Empire for what they did to Owen and Beru(sp). The way Episode 3 ended was hawesome.

As many of you know, St Valentine for which this day is named was a priest in ancient Rome who was sent to jail for I believe disobeying the emperor. While in jail, he fell in love with the jailer's daughter and sent her a small note signed, "From your Valentine." The next day he was beheaded. Another story says when Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men -- his crop of potential soldiers. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine's actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death. From: History Channel

I will be doing what I did last year for Valentine's Day: Getting myself an ice cold adult beverage of choice and putting in "When Harry Met Sally". Seems strange since I was engaged last year and I will doing the same thing as I did last year. After reading Mr. Speaker's post (see #109 below) from last week, I can see in hindsight, the signs, the signals, the little changes in my ex that should have sent off loud alarms for me. When you are in something emotional it is hard to see things as the truly are. And you just do not want to believe that someone that said they loved you, wanted to marry you, wanted to grow old with you just starts lieing(sp) to you and then cheats on you.
