I mentioned awhile back that stepto was in a coma. Well, he woke up about two weeks ago and has written about some of the experience.

He is very lucky.

Have been trying hike at least once a week. It was so hot last weekend that I missed hiking for the first time since April. 100+ not including heat index is just too much. Highs for this Sunday are supposed to be 81 degrees or so. Trails here I come.

My computer is on its last legs. After a bad storm where the power blinked on and off for around 1 minute caused it to turn on and off several times. Now, I have multiple .dll errors and most of my games will not run. Of course they are the games I want to be playing. Thought I would buying a new one next week as that was when I thought Windows 10 came out. End up it comes out at the end of July. Not sure I can wait that long to replace it. Was hoping to avoid Windows 8. Need to check what is out there. May find a Windows 7 machine.

Just realized I have made 450+1 posts. This is over a 10 year period but I have only posted sparingly since mid 2008. When I look at it that way, it is not really that big of accomplishment.
For those who know @Stepto, he is in a coma and things are not looking good. His cousin posted this yesterday:
"My cousin, known in this realm as @Stepto is in a coma and prognosis is not good. I would appreciate any prayers. Thanks"

Stepto has been responding a little to meds. Here is a full recovery.

Throwback Thursday
#tbt
Was reading over this blog over the past few days and found something I wrote in 2007 and it made me chuckle:
"Or it may be that I need to dewire, unplug for awhile, enjoy other
things, go green, read a book, turn on, tune in and drop out, or dare I
say, "find myself". How 90s of me and I apologize. How 70s of me."
Some of what I say there is still with me today. Change or lack of it, well how about lack of big changes. My 20s were all about change. New jobs, moving every two years or so, going to graduate school and working full time through temp agency. And then the 30s came, steady job, a relationship that seemed solid(it turned out it was not), no more moving every two years. In fact, I have lived in the same house for almost 14 years, the longest I have lived anywhere in my life. And I am not complaining and to be honest I figured I would even be more settled by now or 10 years ago I would have it all worked out, whatever that means.
Will leave you all with a song by Ben Folds called Still (reprise) from the Over the Hedge Soundtrack. I think it sums up today's thoughts.
"I stay focused on details it keeps me from feeling the big things
but watch the microscope long enough
things that seem still are still changing" - Ben Folds
things that seem still are still changing" - Ben Folds

Paper Towns new trailer
Arguably this book has effected me more than any other book I have read in the past year. I would even say that I have liked other books better. John Green gets so much right in this book. Q, the main character, feels, well like I did when I was in high school. The difference? One, I was in high school going on 30 years ago and two Q did things that I could not do, then or now. He has balls as I said in another post about this book from last Fall. He went for what he wanted, doubting along the way, but he never folded to those doubts.
**Spoiler Alert**
He does not get what he was after.
Such is life. The point is, he tried when so many of us give up shortly after the thought of doing something HUGE and out of our comfort zone.

In other news, it looks like my hot water heater is down for the count. Hopefully someone will be coming out at some point today to have a look. Just annoying. Again, it is the things I have no control over that bother me the most.
Finally, for several years now on Wednesdays I have been listening to the re:joyce podcast done by Frank Delaney. Each week Mr. Delaney reads a passage from Ulysses by James Joyce. He breaks down the passage, which can be anywhere from 2 to 3 sentences to several paragraphs. As he says, some passages are so dense there are so many things to unpack. His insights have really helped me to understand Ulysses and even though I have read, it never felt like I knew what was going on. Mr Delaney believes this project will go on at least 20 years even if he starts doing two or more podcasts a week. Currently we are in Chapter 6, Hades. A link to his blog and the podcast will be on the right in the list of Online Readings.
I will leave you with this quote from Paper Towns, "It's not a party if there's a tuba." - Radar

T-Shirt Tuesday
Probably a re-post as this is one of my favorite shirts. In fact I am wearing it today. I think this T-shirt was created shortly after NASA retired the Shuttle Program 2-in 2011.
