Nonesuch #242 Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans

I'm just so lonely. I feel people getting further away from me or me
getting away from them. I don't like drama or whatever you call it
anymore, don't put up with it and find myself angry a lot once I am
alone at home. I am not sure if this is a getting older thing or just where I am at this moment in time or just the holiday blues. When I think on it, I am doing ok. Great job, 3-4 close friends, I don't seem them like I want to, they are scattered all over the globe, from middle america to the middle east. Email and instant messaging are great tools to keep the communication going but I miss the sitting around with a few beers or liquor with great music in the background and great conversation. Perhaps I did have a a rough few years in college: bumpy relationship with a girl that we both realized we were not for each other 6 months in but stretched it out for almost 4 years. Talk about about wasted youth. I did have some great times and those are what I remember and miss.
2006 went by so fast. I guess that is good in some ways but where did it go? I had things I wanted to do, never got to them. You could say I had plans that never panned out. Maybe in 2007 but if things go like 2006, I will more than likely be right back here typing the same thing in December 2007.
But in 2006, I have met some great blog folks. Its nutty how by only reading their blogs and emails you feel you get to know these people. Without the internet, the possibility of knowing folks from England, New Zealand, Texas, California and points in between would never have happened.
My resolutions are over. And yes they are a bit tongue in cheek but I wanted to go with things I could actually achieve. Resolutions put so much stress on folks well from what I have seen. I want things different in 2007 but I am the only one that can actually do anything about what I do or don't do.

So, here is to the last days of 2006 and the first days of 2007.

Nonesuch #241 2007 Resolution #4

I resolve to have an even more screwed up sleep pattern than I had throughout 2006. Waking up anywhere from 2am to 3:20 am everyday no matter if I went to sleep at 10pm or midnight. My friends say that this is not possible but I can and will have a more screwed up sleep schedule.

Nonesuch #240 2007 Resolution #3

I resolve to have a lesser number of dates than I had in 2006 which will actually put me in the negatives since now that I think on it, the only person that thinks I had two dates in 2006 was me. My friends say that this is not possible but I can and will have lesser number of dates.

(see resolution #1)

Listening to: Sour Times - Portishead

Nonesuch #239 2007 Resolution #2

I resolve for my house to be messier and unorganized as it ever has. My friends say this is not possible but I can and will overcome the odds and maintain a mess.

Nonesuch #238 2007 Resolution #1

First in a series:

I resolve in 2007 to be even more lonely than I have been this year. My friends do not believe it can be done but I can and will become more lonely.

Nonesuch #237

I want to send a special Happy Boxing Day to my friends who are from Canada, England and New Zealand. You all know who you are. hehe Also, Happy Many Happy Returns/Gift Card Spending Day for everyone else.

Later this week there will be New Year's Resolutions posted. In the past, I have said that my resolution would be to make no more resolutions and that I have realized is just a cop out on my part. So, be on the lookout.

Nonesuch #233 Ramble On

Many things going on in my head but nothing is gelling so here goes:

Cold here, was 14 Saturday morning and that is cold for the middle of NC. Mountains had some snow but not much. The ski areas are making much snow so the skiers have some great conditions with most of the trails and runs open.

I worked this weekend. It is exam time. There were more folks in on Saturday than Sunday. There was a heat problem so it was quite chilly on the inside. I am hot natured so for me to say it is cold, it really is cold.

2 weeks till Christmas. I have done little shopping, no decorating and no mood changing whatsoever. We did have drop-ins last week with some good food. In the past, they have helped to get me festive but not this year. I don't feel the excitement I thought I would even though I have said I will not be celebrating.

Watched the live action Grinch movie over the weekend and I was disappointed. It was an hour too long, they created a back story that didn't add anything. But, Jim Carry is the Grinch. They are showing the original "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" sometime this week. Cannot go wrong with the classics. I missed Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer the other night. I couldn't get CBS to come in on my TV. So, I watched WWE Smackdown on the CW, which is what I normally do on Friday night anyway.

You know, it is really sad when all of my fantasies about bringing a girl home start: "And yeah, my house is cleaned up."

Nonesuch #230 10 Years!

I recently celebrated a 10 year anniversary, no small feat these days in which change is constant.

It was 10 years ago over Thanksgiving that I started to grow my beard.

The girl I was dating at the time said she liked beards and I said that I could grow a full one in about 2 weeks. I had a goatee at the time but I shaved that off and started fresh Thanksgiving morning. By the weekend, I had a shadow and was well on my way. Less than 2 weeks later I had a full beard and have kept it ever since. There are many people who have never seen me without one. I am not I would recognize myself if ever I did shave it. I have had it at various lengths from halfway down my chest to very short just along the neckline. I like it medium length. It doesn't get it my way. I may cut my hair but I dont think the beard will go away.

And now: Beards Through The Years

Last day of 7th grade. I was shaving 3 times a week just to be cool.

Sophomore in college, had the goatee thing going on. Similar to what it looked like before I shaved it off to start the beard.

Christmas 2001(I think)

October 2002 at friend's wedding in DC. I did trim it for the occasion.

December 2005/January 2006

May 2006 - right after I shaved my hair off

Nonsuch #227 What it is all about

This truly is what it is all about.

KC's Secret Santa revealed
Now, as he fights cancer his message of charity takes root in unexpected places.
By LYNN FRANEY
The Kansas City Star
Tammy Ljungblad | The Kansas City Star

For 26 years, the man Kansas City knows as Secret Santa has freely given away money — $100 bills by the handful — to hundreds of down-on-their-luck folks.

He never has told them who he is. Instead, he has remained anonymous, an unnamed Jackson County businessman thrilled to share the joy of a little extra cash at the holidays.

But things have changed.

He has cancer, and this year is probably the last for a “sleigh ride.”

Nonesuch #226

Court went well yesterday. Got there early, was 4th in line, second name called and 4th to see the DA. I brought my proof of inspection and work order with recept from having the inspection and lights replaced. She looked at the date and gave a little laugh cause the date of the ticket and the date on the recepts are the same. She looked my documents and said "thank you. you are free to go." I will tell you, I was amazed at the folks that were there with me waiting. Well, more with the way they were dressed. I think there may have been four or so folks dressed for I would say work and the others were in jeans and t-shirts, jogging pants and sweat shirts, looking like they just rolled out of bed and came to court. Even if I wasnt heading straight to work after court, I would not show up in jogging pants for court. Thank good no one came in spandex. But I think I did see a pair of parachute pants.
Maybe that is just me.

Been listening to last.fm, an online radio station. I had seen links to it before over at DancinFairy's and Caboozle's blogs. Really like what I am hearing. Had it on the chillout station, heard Moby, Sigur ros, massive attack, dido. Really good mix. Think it can keep my going till I can buy a new iPod. I will be honest, I am looking at the zune as well, microsoft's new mp3 player as well.

Building myself a new computer, buying the parts as I can afford them as I am trying build a nice gaming machine. I just ordered the video cards and memory for it and those are the last peices for now. I will be getting more memory in the future than will probably be in a month. Maybe this set up will allow me less problems with DDO. We shall see.

More later

Nonesuch #225 what i'm listening to

Haven't done this in awhile cause well I havent had time to go looking for new stuff. But here goes:

Willie Nelson - Songbird
Best Willie I have heard in years. Great tunes, great lyrics. "Songbird" is a definite listen and "Blue Hotel".

Tyler Hayes
Nice new singer, well new to me, in the vein of Ryan Adams. Check out "Maybe it's me".

Bradley Walker Acoustic / Country / Bluegrass but in the old country style(Willie, Hank Williams Sr, George Jones)In good company with signing with Rounder Records. Heard him on Fresh Air with Terri Gross on npr yesterday and have not got his songs out of my head yet.

Chris Cornell - Billie Jean(Micheal Jackson cover) Check it out* and decide for yourself. Found by way of pop candy by way of sterogum.
*link expired

Léonie - A blogfriend that damn, can she sing. Listen to "Happiness", rinse repeat. I know I do.

Ben Kweller - For being so young, he has done so much. Pop in a pure form. "Penny on the train track" is required listening for me, at least once a week.

DAUGHTRY
- Yes, that Chris Daughtry. His first album comes out in a week. Saw him on local tv morning news program 2 weeks ago and he played "It's not over", just a great song. Powerful lyrics coupled with powerful voice. I see a long career even if he was on AI.

I see a new iPod purchase coming soon.

Others I am checking out:
The Popper Project
Phil and Friends
Ryan Adams and the Cardinals

Friday
It is almost 80 degrees here. Indian Summer is in effect. It will not last long. Sunday will see the mid 50s again. I sound like a weatherman. I wanted to do that briefly when I was a freshman in high school and to get people to like me I said that Greg Fishel, local weather reporter at wral was my cousin. Yeah, I was a little strange back then and not much has changed. I guess I just wanted attention but who doesnt want attention as a teenager.
Put together most of my new computer today. All I have left to do is add the memory, video cards and the hard drive and should be good to go. Until it starts up and gives that beep I will have doubts. It went pretty straight forward, better than the last time but I do have more experience with computers than I did 3 years ago.
Very tired. Hope to get some rest this weekend but I have cleaning to do so I can have the house ready for when they install new windows. That will be nice, keep the drafts away and the house warmer in winter and cooler in summer.
It is Peanut Butter Lovers' Month and you all know how much I like peanut butter. I hope to make a peanut butter poundcake and a peanut butter pie sometime this month. have a peanut butter sandwich and celebrate peanut butter today.
Get well soon, Anne. :)
Joined plentyoffish.com, a free dating site. Got an email the second or third day I was on. It read: "I really like your kind of personality".
I just wasnt sure how or why to respond, so I said "Thanks". Havent heard anything else from her. I just didnt know what to say. How does she know my personality from 4-6 sentences of a profile. The whole process, the game, of dating makes me so tired and I say that I am not going to check my email from those sites but yet I do and get nothing. And to be honest I have not seen a profile I would like to send a message. Well, maybe one. I have seen her on other sites so I figured hey, if I keep seeing her why not send you an email but I have no idea what to say. I am somewhere between wanting to make a steller impression and being as vague as possible in order to seem cool instead of desperate if that makes sense to anyone. But, I am not cool. My idols were weathermen and nerds. My profile starts "geek seeks" not very original but it rhymes dammit. I may just go back to my bitter profile. I got more hits from that than any of my other ones. It does seem my posts are the same lately. I guess that is a sign that not much is going on for good or bad and that is a good thing but sometimes I just want to have a dare to be great situation.
May watch Princess Bride on DVDt tonight. Food Lion had it for $5 last week and I had to get a copy. May put it on while playing DDO which I havent played in a few weeks. Just not into it after they tried to add new content and it didnt go over well. Seems to be better now but it has lost its luster for me, what little it had. I have had problems with the game since March when it came out.

Nonesuch #221 Let Phil Sing

From PhilLesh.net

What do I have in common with Rudy Giuliani, John Kerry, Bob Dole, Joe Torre, Nelson Mandela, Sean Connery, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Emperor Akihito of Japan, General Norman Schwarzkopf, Colin Powell, Quincy Jones, Roger Moore, Sydney Poitier, and Robert De Niro?
Like them, and along with thousands of other men, I have been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Since my liver transplant, my health has been monitored by a crack team of doctors; in the course of this program, I have periodic blood tests and clinic visits. At my last clinic, my doctor noticed that my PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) levels had increased over the last period. He recommended that I see a urologist, and a biopsy confirmed the diagnosis. I have decided to have it removed in early December with da Vinci robotic surgery. Since we’ve caught it very early, and it’s small and slow-growing, I fully expect to have a rapid and complete recovery.

I am feeling energetic as always, and all my scheduled appearances will occur as planned.

As you know, I urge everyone to become an organ donor to help save lives. Now, I am also urging all men: speak to your doctor about having periodic regular PSA screening for early detection of prostate cancer- you may save your own life.

-PHIL

Here is to a speedy recovery, Phil.

Nonesuch #220 what you talking about Jonathan?

Just a list of things in my head on a rainy day:

It is a good soup day or chilli would be good as well. *

The owner of my house put a new roof on it this week. Today it is raining. It is it's first test. They did a good job with the roof but left trash in my yard that I am not going to pick up. Coffee cups, cig boxes, roof tile wrappings. I guess that is better than having nails all over the yard I could step on or roll over with my car and get flat tire(s).

Will be getting new windows come December. I have much cleaning to do so they can get into the rooms to install the new windows. I hope they are those thermal replacement, swing inside to clean windows.

Do not want to do much on a rainy day. Plus I worked last night and I am always off-kilter the next day. At least it is Friday. **

I want a big sit down meal, like steak and potatoes type meal. I may treat myself to one this evening. Also in mood for chinese food as well. Good eggdrop soup would be good right now.

I had a late breakfast but still hungry early. I have leftover sub from subway upstairs for lunch. Sometimes they are better the next day.

I have many pecan trees in my yard. Last year, I had a lot of pecans and they were huge which means this year, I will not have as many. That is why I always freeze a few gallon bags for use later.

So need to go to grocery store. I am out of almost everything.

Do not see me doing anything for halloween this year. Used to dress up, hand out candy but no one has come to the house in years. I feel like I have typed this before. If it is a repeat, I apologize.

If you have not checked out Magazine Man(see list of blogs ---->)check him out. He consistently has awesome posts, usually with a cliffhanger, that are engaging and entertaining. And he and his wife are expecting their third child.

I did not respond to russian girl as joie and I have coined her from the other day. Something just not right about it. I have I guess 4 profiles up at various sites but I just do not care. I am getting nothing from them. Maybe if I get responses from some of the girls I email I would be more positive about the whole experience. Perhaps I am just not good at dating. It does take practice like anything else.

Read a girl's blog about bad boy vs nice guy and it made me think, well, at least for a few minutes. She was saying she would rather have the bad boy than the nice guy for reasons I cannot remember right now, other than that nice guys were weak, didnt have any energy(sexual? im not sure) and were always wanting to please the woman they were with. Did I miss something in dating school? Do not girls want to be treated nice, with respect etc? My comment to her was: "This is fine and all but do not complain in your next blog post that some bad boy hurt you." I just dont know. By the time I figure women out, I will be too old to do much with the knowledge. And yes, I know, maybe I shouldnt think too much and do more. Perhaps that is what the girl above was meaning. All I know is I am lonely.

I was going try to give Anne some advice about her dating situation but realized what can I give? I cannot even keep a relationship myself so whatever I would say would be meaningless. Bottom line to Anne: Do what makes you happy and keeps you smiling.

PBS has had some great shows on this week. They must be offering alternative programing to the World Series.

Random picture:

I may do some baking this weekend. I made brownies last weekend but I think they made me so sick on Monday but not sure. I threw them out. I have some apples something applish may be in the works. ***

And Happy Halloween/Happy Harvest/Happy Samhain/Happy Dia De Los Muertos/All Saint's Day and as I say x'oween to everyone.

*(did I spell chili right?)
**(do people use off-kilter anymore?)

Got this email from one of the online dating sites I still go to. I had to post it here cause I am just not sure if this is for real. What do you guys think? I changed her name just to be on the safe side.

Hi dear stranger! First I would like to describe
myself, because you must to know who had written to
you. I am charming, mild, caring woman. I am a good
listener and achieve the aims I set forth. I hope
to find a man who I would give all my love and
care, and get his love, protection and support in
return. I am a very sociable, thoughtful, kind, and
optimistic person. I am joyful and charming, kind
and intelligent, caring and gentle. I like to go to
the movies and theaters, I like to rest in the
forest. O, yes of course my name is D. To me 28
years. I think that the Internet it only means for
the beginning dialogue, and I very much hope that
we with you shall find common language, and that we
with you can start long relations. I very much want
that ours with you relations do not become banal
correspondence of people far from each other, I
want the greater!!! I shall wait your answer to me.
And I want tell you that to me more conveniently if
you will write to me on my electronic address.
It:(removed) Writ me I will wait
you letter !
D

Not much going on these days. It is 2 months till Christmas Eve, better get shopping. I have two gifts already for my parents. 3 weeks till my birthday, 4 weeks till Thanksgiving. It is all downhill till the end of the year. 1 week till Halloween. I used to dress up give out candy on Halloween but after a few years of having no one come to the house just not sure I will do anything this year. May wear a costume to work but I am not feeling that this year either. I did get some candy corn earlier this month.

I got a ticket on my way to get my car inspected last week. My running lights were out and the sun had not come up yet. I dont think the police officer believed me that that was where I was going when he pulled me over. So, court date in November or I could pay off the ticket and be done with it.

Just a quick post today that may turn into a long one as that is they way I can be sometimes. I feel I have nothing to say and then it just flows out from somewhere.

I did not have an mri. 3 weeks ago I had really bad excema on my hands, arms and neck. So bad I couldnt sleep and had to get a few steroid shots and steroid cream to combat it. We (dr and I) that it was caused by a reaction to a chemical in the air but most likely an allergic reaction to neosporin. But my skin is better and they think that the pains I was having in my back and legs are connected to my skin problems and not ms, for now. It will be looked at in the future but not right now.

Been playing alot of DDO, having a pretty good time but I seem to get my characters up to 6th, get bored with them and then start a new one. It is something I have done with pen and paper D&D. But I have a rogue that I want to continue in the levels as the game will soon be expanding to 12 levels.

I have a messy house, just not caring at the moment but I plan to clean more this weekend.

Thinking of joining/doing things with SCA. Went to a fighter's practice last week and it looked cool even though I do not see myself getting into armor and being hit with ratan weapons but I did like the rapier combat and throwing weapons and archery competitions and brewing and cooking. To be honest, it really will be determined by the people I meet. Just too old to deal with bullshit.

Well, it ended up shorter than I thought. I guess it didnt flow as it has in the past.

Nonesuch #213 WOXY returns ... today

From popcandy

WOXY returns ... today

The late, great Internet-only radio station known as WOXY.com returns to the airwaves today at 10:10 a.m. ET, so grab your headphones. All seemed lost last month when the operation ran out of money, but swift help arrived from folks at

I posted last month the top 100 songs from their Modern Rock 500 as a tribute to this great station and now it is back. Big fuckin thanks to lala.com's entrepreneur Bill Nguyen who wanted keep the woxy mojo going.

Also popcandy does a podcast and this week it is all Battlestar Galactica, the amazing show on Sc-Fi network. Saw the 3rd season premiere last Friday and it was just fantastic. I don't have cable so how I will be keeping up I have no clue. The DVD release cannot come too soon. Hmm, iTunes sells the episodes a few days after it is shown on sc-fi, that may be the way I get my fix.

Drove downtown in the rain nine-thirty on a tuesday night,
Just to check out the late-night record shop.
Call it impulsive, call it compulsive, call it insane,
But when Im surrounded I just cant stop.

Its a matter of instinct, its a matter of conditioning,
Its a matter of fact.
You can call me Pavlov's dog.
Ring a bell and Ill salivate. howd you like that?
Dr. Lendy tell me youre not just a pedagogue,
Cause right now im

Lying in bed just like brian wilson did
Well Im lying in bed just like brian wilson did.

So Im lying here, just starting at the ceiling tiles.
And Im thinking about what to think about.
Just listening and relistening to smiley smile,
And Im wondering if this is some kind of create drought
Because I am

Lying in bed just like brian wilson did
Well Im lying in bed just like brian wilson did.

And if you want to find me Ill be out in the sandbox,
Wondering where the hell all the love has gone.
Playing my guitar and building castles in the sun,
And singing fun, fun, fun.

I had a dream that I was three hundred pounds
And though I was very heavy,
I floated til I couldnt see the ground
I floated til I couldnt see the ground
Somebody help me, I couldnt see the ground
Somebody help me, I couldnt see the ground
Somebody help me because im

Lying in bed just like brian wilson did
Well Im lying in bed just like brian wilson did.

Drove downtown in the rain nine-thirty on a tuesday night.
Just to check out the late-night record shop.
Call it impulsive, call it compulsive, call it insane;
But when Im surrounded I just cant stop.

If I had a million dollars
(If I had a million dollars)
I'd buy you a house
(I would buy you a house)
If I had a million dollars
(If I had a million dollars)
I'd buy you furniture for your house
(Maybe a nice chesterfield or an ottoman)
And if I had a million dollars
(If I had a million dollars)
Well, I'd buy you a K-Car
(A nice Reliant automobile)
If I had a million dollars I'd buy your love

If I had a million dollars
I'd build a tree fort in our yard
If I had million dollars
You could help, it wouldn't be that hard
If I had million dollars
Maybe we could put like a little tiny fridge in there somewhere
You know, we could just go up there and hang out
Like open the fridge and stuff
There would already be laid out foods for us
Like little pre-wrapped sausages and things

They have pre-wrapped sausages but they don't have pre-wrapped bacon
Well, can you blame 'em
Uh, yeah

If I had a million dollars
(If I had a million dollars)
Well, I'd buy you a fur coat
(But not a real fur coat that's cruel)
And if I had a million dollars
(If I had a million dollars)
Well, I'd buy you an exotic pet
(Yep, like a llama or an emu)
And if I had a million dollars
(If I had a a million dollars)
Well, I'd buy you John Merrick's remains
(Ooh, all them crazy elephant bones)
And If I had a million dollars I'd buy your love

If I had a million dollars
We wouldn't have to walk to the store
If I had a million dollars
Now, we'd take a limousine 'cause it costs more
If I had a million dollars
We wouldn't have to eat Kraft Dinner
But we would eat Kraft Dinner
Of course we would, we’d just eat more
And buy really expensive ketchups with it
That’s right, all the fanciest ke... dijon ketchups!
Mmmmmm, Mmmm-Hmmm

If I had a million dollars
(If I had a million dollars)
Well, I'd buy you a green dress
(But not a real green dress, that's cruel)
And if I had a million dollars
(If I had a million dollars)
Well, I'd buy you some art
(A Picasso or a Garfunkel)
If I had a million dollars
(If I had a million dollars)
Well, I'd buy you a monkey
(Haven't you always wanted a monkey)

If I had a million dollars
I’d buy your love

If I had a million dollars, If I had a million dollars
If I had a million dollars, If I had a million dollars
If I had a million dollars
I'd be rich

Well, for some time now I have been trying to post and it all comes out the same thing:

I am lonely, I have so much work to do, I am scared I have ms(I refuse to capitalize it), it was the same post everytime and I don't want to do that.

It is Homecoming at the university where I work. It has pretty much been all I have been working on since end of August. The big days are this weekend with campus tours on Friday, events on Saturday and a memorial service on Sunday afternoon. Between that and just really having nothing new to say, I have not posted. I want to say I will be back posting like I was after Homecoming but I just don't know. And I am still reading everyone's blogs. I just feel I don't have anything to say that is blogworthy. And I know I will get, write what you know or feel or makes you mad so on and so on.

Nothing times nothing still equals nothing.

**Update**
Got this from Pop Candy:

The return of WOXY?

Pop reader John E. has been keeping me updated on the possibility of WOXY.com returning to the airwaves. It seems investor Bill Nguyen is interested in integrating the defunct radio station with Lala.com, so keep your fingers crossed.

Keep an eye on the WOXY message boards for developments. In previous posts, Nguyen has said he'd like to make the station free with higher-quality audio. DJs would retain complete editorial control, and the new station would include more exclusive in-house performances. It all sounds good to me -- let's just hope it's not too good to be true.

I think this would be very cool. I really hope it goes through.

Last Friday afternoon, at 5:35pm, woxy.com signed off after 23 years, 17 on the radio waves and 6 online. The vintage channel which they called "your Modern Rock primer" played last May's Modern Rock 500 each day from 9am-5pm playing 100 songs a day. Many songs that I had forgotten about were played, many many from my youth and college days. Band and songs that I swore I would always listen to and of course as time passed, I let them slip off my radar. I was a relative newcomer to woxy having not lived near Cincinatti so I can only really say I was onboard for a year maybe a little more. I saw a link to it on a blog(imagine that) and went there and had been listening ever since. On the regular channel from what I can tell, the last song was MC5-Kick - Out The Jams.
Below is the playlist for the last 100 songs of the Modern Rock 500. There came a time somewhere in the 40s or so, I knew all the songs they played. Not only knew them but was very familar with them, own the songs, albums etc. I hope I can find a new station, website or something to listen to. I had planned to comment on each song but have not had the time. I may repost later with comments on each song. But you know, some if not most of these songs, there just isnt more to say other than listen.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This one is Kat's tag.

8 Facts/Things/Habits about me.

1. I too sleep on the couch most nights. But its because if I put my back towards the back of the couch, I cen feel like someone is beside me.

2. I can eat peanut butter for all my meals and snacks.

3. I had long hair for 16 years until I cut it short in May

4. I have played Dungeons and Dragons for 26 years and I still play. Its like our poker night. Wish we could play more, but my group is all over the place now and it is hard to get together at times.

5. I wake up just about every morning between 3:30 and 4am no matter when I go to sleep. So I get 3-4 hours of sleep, not enough some days.

6. Sometimes I wonder why I have a website, blog, and profiles on various dating sites.

7. I drive a VW Jetta and yes it has grateful dead stickers on it

8. eight eight i forget what eight was for

In other news, I quit the one pay dating site which shall remain nameless at this time but I seem to recall that I may have mentioned it before. If that is the case, I will look and see and then I will say its name. I was getting nowhere and the ones that I actually made contact with would stop emailing. In fact, I had more dates from myspace than I did that place. There was a questionare that I had to fill out when I quit asking why and I told them: "This was a waste of my time and my money and that I had met more people and had more dates on myspace than here." I then changed my email address to one of "dummy" addresses and quit. I had heard that even after you quit they still send you matches and emails asking to come back to find your "soul mate" and they are rooting for you. If I go back, it will be on my terms. Hmmm, did I just quit a dating service or did I BREAK up with a dating service....Something to ponder.

I went back to the doctor yesterday for more tests. They hooked me up to a computer to check out my brain functions including eyes, this one with clicks in my ears and they sent tiny electric shocks in my arms and legs. It doesnt sound like much but I was in the office for around 2 hours. The tests were inconclusive so I have an MRI in October. Maybe then, I will know more. I just want to know one way or the other.

I am glad it is the weekend. I want to do something but my options are limited. My friend Sally is working most of the weekend or I would go see her.

Longest post is quite sometime. I just really havent had much to write about, well I have but it would have been, "my back hurts. I hope I dont have MS. I am lonely and I am tired of being lonely. I miss my ex a lot now that NFL has started back up."

So anyway...

Nonesuch #205 Make Up Monday

"Tell me why...I don't like Mondays" - Boomtown Rats

It has been awhile, I know. I just have not felt like I had much to say so instead of having short really lame posts, I just decided to wait till I had enough info for a really lame long post.

Soda Sunday - I have bought the Jones sugar free cream soda yesterday. It is good, better than I thought it would be when I realized I got the sugar free instead of the regular. Not even sure if there is a regular. It is a sipping soda, not a guzzle it down soda. Also got V8's V-Fusion fruit and vegetable drink. Have not tried it yet but will let you all know what I think.

I think since tomorrow is Tuesday I will do a double shot/double shot t-shirt tuesday post if I am able.

I think today is my friend Chad's birthday or it may be tomorrow. I know it is beginning of September around the 4th or 5th. Always remember two parties we had for his birthday, one up in Boone and the other at the house we rented back some 12 years ago. Good times, good people, good music, just doesn't get any better than that.

The world is a bit lonelier today now that Steve Irwin has died. Godspeed.

Football starts this Thursday. I work Thursday night so I will not be able to see the beginning and I will miss Diddy's performance...damn(sarcasm) but should be home to watch most of the 2nd half. Really looking forward to next Sunday when there will be many games on including Manning versus Manning on Sunday night football. I think Peyton will take this one but Eli may well turn out to the better QB in the end, some 15 years from now. I like what I have seen with the Panthers in the pre-season but again, that is pre-season. We dont know what the team will be like once the games start counting. On paper, they look strong.

I went to the arthitis doctor last thursday. I am being tested for MS but we(my dr and I) think it is my arthritis but we want to be sure since the symptoms for both are the mostly the same or similar. I go this thursday for some neurological tests and probably will have an MRI sometime in the future. They put me on celebrex which has helped the pain for now.

And Anne is home from the hospital :)

Nonesuch #203 Soda Sunday and other things I missed

I have found I like Vitamin Water by GLACEAU. I had seen it before in the store but never tried it. I came across the one called Power-C when my back was at its worst and decided to give it a try. I liked it and have tried just about all the others I can find in my area. Those are:

Power C - dragonfruit (taurine + vitamin c)
Focus - kiwi-strawberry (a+lutien)
Multi V - lemonade(a-zinc)
Formula 50 - grape (50% daily)

I think that is all. They sort of taste alike but that is not a bad thing.

Not a flower but I like the picture just the same

I have not been doing much lately with my back out of whack. The meds the doctor gave me stopped working the second day I had them. He gave me a stronger dose and it worked for a day and now it is not. I go to my arthritis doctor this Thursday so we shall see. I know what I am going to hear, exercise, stretch and lose weight, get in shape. So, why am I going? I dont know.

I am trying out several online dating sites. Still batting .1000 but that is ok. I mean, if someone doesnt respond to me, I havent lost anything but a little time sending an email. Maybe my intro emails are not exciting enough. How do you get across excitement without resorting to a bunch of exclamation points? Maybe excitement is not the correct word: interest in the person I am emailing. That's it. I always try to mention something about their profile, like where they have traveled or a book that we have both read. I did read the other day that women get an average from anywhere from 50-200 emails a day from dating sites. So, I guess they cannot get to everyone especially if they like #16 I happen to be #199. Sometimes I dont know why I bother and then I remember, I am lonely.

Nonesuch #202 tshirt tuesday

One of my favorite shirts from one of my favorite bands, Sonic Youth.
(blogger will not load my picture(s) today. Will get them up as soon as blogger gets better.)

close up shot

Not sure if you can see but it has many holes, too many that I cannot wear it anymore. In other t-shirt news, the grabbag shirts from thinkgeek.com arrive today. I am excited to see what I got.

Somehow I hurt my back. I am no clue as to how. It started Saturday evening when I was laying on the couch watching football. I thought it would go away. It didnt. Yesterday I was stiff and sore. This morning I was less stiff but still sore. So, I went to the doctor and he said, "Exercise for my back and belly." But he did give me some pain meds and suggested I make an appointment with my arthritis doctor as it could be arthritis in my back. He also said try the WellPatch. I am waiting to get my perscription but the wellpatch is helping some. So, not really getting much done today. At least we have some rain, sort of.

*update* pain meds for back is good.

Nonesuch # 201

As found on youtube.com by way of fark.com, worst Final Countdown cover EVER. May be the worst cover song ever period.
I had to share cause now I cannot get this shit out of my head.

Not much going on this weekened. Quiet but as Anne said lonely. At least she had a great album of 70's hits to listen to. Al Green is the man. I had bad TV. Well, football was on last night and it was good game even if it was just a preseason game. Panthers looked better than they did last week and Jacksonville will be another contender this year. I think the only team they have to worry about meeting in their division is the Colts but Jacksonville has had their number in past years.

I made lime jello again. I also made a blueberry loaf instead of muffins. I had to cook it a bit longer than muffins but it came out very nice. I used fresh blueberries that a co-worker brought me.

Funny, I wanted to leave a comment on Anne's lastest blogpost but it became so long that I just made it into this post. That 70s hits album brought back memories. I remember playing ping pong in a friend's grandparent's barn listening to the Bee Gees and ABBA drinking very nice whisky. The ping pong table had many dead spots and it was very hot but we played on anyway. I have forgotten what all I had commented on now, should have copied and pasted. Thought I could remember what all I said. I tried to go back and recreate it on her comments but it became a 4 sentence comment.

I tried the new vanilla frosty from Wendy's this past week. Very very good. I think I like it better than the original. It melts quicker than the original so easier to drink with a straw.

Classes start Tuesday. Last week was very busy. I cannot even imagine what it may be like once classes start.

The heat has returned. Near 90 once more and humid.

I ordered some t-shirts from thinkgeek.com from their grabbag special, so I have no idea what I will get. Will take pics and post them when I get the shirts in. Found one of my favorite shirts while cleaning up. Will probably be my tuesday selection.

Nonesuch #199a

A student was out on the steps of the Student Center this morning with his guitar playing and singing "Let It Be". Seems to be turning into a Beatles theme week around here.

Bruno Kirby
died August 14th of complications due to Leukemia. I wasnt even aware he was sick. If you cannot place him, he played Jess, Harry's friend who marries Marie, Sally's friend in When Harry Met Sally.

Jess: Baby fish mouth! Baby fish mouth!

Jess: "Baby talk"? That's not a saying.
Harry Burns: Oh, but "baby fish mouth" is sweeping the nation? I hear them talking.

Jess: You made a woman meow?

Marie: Tell me I'll never have to be out there again.
Jess: You'll never have to be out there again.

Nonesuch # 199 t-shirt tuesday

I should have waited till this week to use the t-shirt from last week but oh well. This week's shirt is one of the only things that my ex gave me that I have kept. Now, for a t-shirt that really needs no introduction... live on the internets. I give you:

Nonesuch # 198 1/2

Well, after two dates she has said there is no spark and we shouldn't see each other.

Nonesuch #198

It feels like there is nothing going on but I know different, I guess it is all my head.

No new sodas/drinks etc to talk about this week.

Coca-cola original in the glass bottle - Can it get any better than this? The glass bottles get colder faster and stay colder longer. And it just tastes smoother than Coke in a plastic bottle or can. Too bad they only come in 8oz sizes now.

Been trying to find an old friend for some time now. I think I have on myspace but there is no way to really know. I did find his parents and they live at the same house that they did back in the day. I am thinking of writing a letter, yeah they still exist(letters that is) and see what I can find out.

Had a second date Friday night. We watched Harry Potter 3 and some BBC America and talked till after 2am. I havent heard from her since. I sent her an email thinking her for a CD and DVD she made for me. I think I may have scared her. I have done that, I have been told I have intense eyes, whatever that means and that I can be intimidating. I was taught to look at a person when talking with them. A lot of people look away, dont make eye contact. I enjoy spending time with her. I would like to continue to get to know her. We shall see.

I made Chef Boyardee pepperoni pizza, added my own ham topping. It was very good. My Mom used to make it all the time and as I was going through my cabinet, I found I had two boxes. I also made some lime jello. It is setting up in the fridge. I dont know if I can wait 3 more hours for it to set.

Am excited that pro football has started up again. Have watched every pre-season game I can get on my non-cable TV setup. Panthers fan, live about an hour from Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte but I have never gone to a game. Tickets that I can afford go so quickly. But I will get to a game one of these days. I think the NFC South: the Panthers, Falcons, Bucs and the Saints is the toughest division in the entire NFL. The teams all match up against each other very well so there are not many blowouts. Watching football this year will not be the same. It was one thing my ex and I had in common and she knew her football. Anyway....

Faculty workshop begin this week with classes starting next Tuesday or Wednesday, I cannot remember offhand. The semester is here and I dont feel like I have had any break this summer, well I havent really. A day here, a day there. Its my own fault.

T-shirt Tuesday

From one of my favorite bands comes the t-shirt that I bought when I saw them in 1996 or was it 1997...I will check and make sure. Have been a fan since high school when a friend gave me a copy of their All album. I had just been through a bad breakup, well bad for high school, and there are some songs on there that really helped. And then I realized the whole album is fantastic.

Sunday Soda

I hadnt found any new sodas to talk about until last evening when I went to the store.
Polar All Natural Ginger Ale - nice taste, not as spicy as last weeks Pangleheimers' but still not a bad ginger ale.

I think I got Tropicana sugar free orangeade. Not sure though. I had some this morning and it was not that bad. I think I have had the regular orangeade before and I think the sugar free tastes better. (Didnt realize Tropicana was a Pepsi subsidiary)

Classes begin in 2 weeks. I am working on getting library lab computers ready among other things. So fast has the summer gone by.
I had a date...No, really I did. We met at a steak restaurant and talked for over 6 hours. She is a really cool girl, into all things British, Star Wars, LOTR and music and concerts. I really enjoyed talking with her.

Nonesuch # 194 T-Shirt Tuesday on a Wednesday

Confused? I know I am.
Well, forgot about t-shirt Tuesday yesterday until I saw Kidd's post and her shirt is a funny one. I forgot my camera with all the pics I have of my t-shirts so once again I had to go on the internets looking for images. I ended up with one that I dont actually own but I do plan on getting. Here it is:

Aren't you supposed to be the main characters in your own life? Aren't you supposed to be the hero? Why then do you feel like one of those nameless Non Player Characters that populate all those games?

You know NPCs -- the little characters that run around busily doing all the real work that keeps little fantasy worlds going. Most of these fantasy worlds would grind to a halt if it wasnt for NPCs. Maybe its ok to feel like a NPC. Maybe the world needs them.

Nonesuch #193 More Soda Sunday on Monday etc

I came across this new diet soda and felt that I couldn't wait till next week to talk about it. It is:
Jazz diet pepsi strawberries and cream. There is also black cherry french vanilla available as well. It does a good job of masking the diet part of the soda but I am not sold on the strawberries and cream part. May try the black cherry one next.

I also forgot to mentioned this other drink I found. Pangleheimers' Spicy Hot Ginger Ale. It is very good, spicy hot. Certainly not a chugging beverage but a sipping one, very good cold. It reminds me of Blenheim ginger ale and I am not sure which is better. Both are certainly not your run of the mill ginger ales.

Had an ok weekend. Went to Sally's birthday dinner Friday night in Durham at the Cheesecake Factory. I really liked that place, the food was really good. We got this large appetizer (4 plates of food). It has Avocado Eggrolls, Spinach and Cheese Dip, Pot Stickers, Summer Rolls, Quesadilla, Corn Cakes, Buffalo Blasts and Calamari. The potsickers and qeusidillas were the highlights to me. The birthday girl had the steak diane that came with a sculpture of mashed potatoes rivaling the Close encounters of the third kind mashed potato tower that Richard Dreyfuss built. She said it was very good. She also had a Pink Lemonade adult beverage. I had the crabcake sandwich which veing good was not what I was looking for. Should have gone with one of their burgers whick I will do the next time I go. The other girl, Lawgirl, had the Chinese Chicken salad which had rice noodles towering 5 inches above the plate. She couldnt finish it it was so huge. Her husband, MS had the Santa Fe Salad I think. They both had mojitos...moooojitoooos...
The last person, KR, had the herb crusted filet of salmon. He too has a tower of mashed potatoes but not like the birthday girl. We all ordered cheesecake to go. But as we were getting ready to leave our waiter brought out a mini hot fudge sundae with a candle on it for Sally. She blew out the candle and we passed it around. It was very good, a precursor to what the cheesecake would be. Sally got the dulce de leche caramel cheesecake, KR got the Godiva Chocolate cheesecake and I got the brownie sundae cheesecake. We all were so full, it was the next day before Sally and I had our cheesecake. Very good. Sally's boyfriend BassCat(he's a professional fisherman and pretty damn good) was not able to make it Friday. They celebrated Sunday night. Sally's Mother and Grandmother came Saturday afternoon, so she had three days of birthday goodness. Her birthday was Saturday, the same as Wil's, for those playing along at home. I came home Saturday afternoon and didnt do much for the rest of the weekend.

Nonesuch # 192 Soda Sunday

Just woke up from a nap and decided to post, so if things dont make sense that is my story and I am sticking to it.

Pom-Tea
I had tried POM Cherry juice a few weeks back and really enjoyed it. So, when I came across Pom tea I just had to try it. It is very good. You can taste the tea with a nice amount of pomegranate juice. And it quenched my thirst yesterday afternoon after drving home in 90+ degree heat. I will be buying both and I recommend both.

Fiji water
Amanda recommended I try Fiji water and I finally found it at a local grocery. It is very good. It almost has no taste but at the same time it has a refreshing taste, if that makes sense. I have Fiji water on my next grocery list.

Honest Tea Green Dragon Tea
A green tea sweetened with lemon(which I cannot taste) and passion fruit flavor. In fact I didnt taste much else but a strong taste of green tea. I wanted a bit more sweetness so I may try one of their other green teas. Have three more bottles of the green dragon so will wait till I finish those before giving my final decision.

Nonesuch # 191 Friday Flower

Miniature rose from my small garden, taken July 1st of this year. After the big Mother's Day storm this year, I was afraid I lost most of my plants. In the end, I may have lost 1 or 2 but the rest are doing well.

Nonesuch # 190 3 for 3

Well, so far I am perfect in the online dating world, if that is what you can call it. I have met 3 very interesting girls through various online dating sites. We seem to be getting along fine, emailing about life, the things we like to do, TV we like to watch, music, books etc and then for some reason, and one by one they have stopped emailing. No reason that I can tell, they just stop. It really makes me wonder what is up. Is it something I said or did not say? Is it something I did or didn't do? Did I pass some magical demarcation line of not asking her to coffee and now she has decided to stop communication? If she does not feel a spark or no longer wants to get to know me, she should tell me and then I can continue my search. But as it is now, I feel hung out and not sure of anything especially myself.

Well, at least I am batting 1000.

PS. Now that I think on it, it is the magical demarcation line. I have spoke of it before as not knowing when I meet a nice girl when to ask her out. It slips by and then, just friends. Well, at least I don't get the "let's just be friends" speech much.

*update* ok. I take most of this back, #3 just emailed me. She has had computer problems all week. So, I eat my words.

Nonesuch #189

Today is Jeremy Piven's 41st birthday.

Here's to the guy that brought us PCU:

Droz: What's this? You're wearing the shirt of the band you're going to see? Don't be that guy.

Droz: What's Your major?
Sanskrit Major: Sanskrit
Droz: Sanskrit. You are majoring in a 5000 year old dead language?
Sanskrit Major: Yeah

To the guy that has showed up in many John Cusack films including:

Say Anything
Mark: Give me my Firebird keys!

Grosse Pointe Blank
Paul: 10 years!

Serendipity
Dean: You're the shit!
[man next to him on plane looks over at him thinking he's talking to him]
Jonathan: [to the guy] That would be me, the shit.

One Crazy Summer
:
(couldnt find a quote from him in this one) I think this is the only movie with both of them in it where Piven is not Cusack's best buddy.

and others.

Another great movie:

Singles
Doug Hughley: You're the only man I know who could mix Elvis Costello and Public Enemy!
[singing]
What's so funny about... peace, peace, peace... love and under... peace, peace. / Death Row, what does a brother know? peace, peace. / Yow, wow, wow, wow, wow, kapow! You're the King, man, you are the King!

Cupid
A great show that didnt last much more than half a season and from what I understand there are no plans for it to be released on DVD.

And I almost forgot Old School
Dean Pritchard: Actually, my name's not Cheese anymore. It's Gordon Pritchard.
Beanie: Oh yeah. Cheeeeeese. Yeah, didn't we lock you in a dumpster one time?
Dean Pritchard: Yea, I got out.

His parents, Joyce Piven and the late Byrne Piven, founded the Piven Theatre Workshop. Classically trained at his parent's theatre school in Evanston, IL, he formed a long lasting friendship with John Cusack, who trained with him. That alone makes him cool.

Nonesuch # 188 T-shirt Tuesday

I was wrong. I do have a T-shirt Tuesday image. I took it way back in February and posted it over at my Flickr page. Here it is:

I know doesnt much look like a t-shirt but it is. Was trying to take a picture for another blog. This is how it turned out. Not how I thought it would turn out, but I like it. On the back it says HAWESOME!

Nonesuch #187

First things first, I dont know why my links, song lists etc are missing from my blog. I have sent an email to blogger telling them about the problem. Yesterday it was I couldnt comment on people's blogs all morning and somehow I managed to post the same post 5 times so had to go back and delete 5 copies. Second, I didnt bring the camera with me home last night. Didnt realize it till after 11pm so the TST will happen sometime later today. Not sure on the exact time. Depends on how the day goes. Third, it is cool today but raining, well more drizzly but at least we are not roasting like we did all last week. So here is a picture of me of what I will look like in the future but really in the past. Yeah, doesnt make sense to me either.

**update** Links etc are back now that I submitted a new post. Strange...
