Nonesuch #269 Swap meet and greet

The swap meet and greet happened last Friday. I had planned to come early stay awhile, leaving around 10 and getting home at 11. I left at 1am and got home at 2am. I had a good time. I think it was what I needed. I know I never got around to taking pictures of what I was going to take but here is what I ended up taking:

videos
Holy Man with Eddie Murphy
Christmas Vacation
Princess Bride( I have it on DVD now)

2 5lb weights

1 pack of incense

gift bag with snow and bears on it

and a few other things that I cannot remember right now and a surprise. I wasn't sure if I should bring that last item as it has/had potential embarrassing consequences so I left it in the car. There was a good sized crowd, mostly librarians, a few I went to library school with but none that I thought would be there so very little mention of CW was made. As the crowd thinned out and all that was left was us hardcore folks, of course the conversation turned to sex which is always seems to do. I should have mentioned earlier that there were a few single attractive girls there. And let me tell you I really got my flirt on which I hadn't done in along time. One particular was a Swiss girl that we kept talking to one another. She had just completed a human sexuality course and was talking about this item or that item. That was when I knew I could get the surprise. I went to my car and returned with "More Joy of Sex", the update for the 90s. It was a gift from CW back when things were going well. It had an inscription that right there at the party I took a Sharpie and marked out. The Swiss Girl took it from my hands and said: "This is the best swap. This is great" and immediately opened it up and started looking at the pictures and reading the chapters. She then asked about the inscription and about CW but I said "No, didn't want to get into that." And she was cool with that. Then she said, "So, you know all these positions? Is that why you are getting rid of the book?" I said, "Of course" and laughed.

And no, there was no hookup
(as per the Bits on the Side Girlsbut I had not read that post yet).

Swiss Girl is 21, just a wee bit young I think or I am a wee bit old for her. She did say that I was not an old man like I was calling myself. Like I said, it was what I needed. It had been a long time since I have been to a party and was around available single attractive girls that I could see myself having fun with. As I left the party she said many good times would come reading the book and I just gave a thumbs up. So, overall a good night and the punch was fantastic.

In other party happenings, I met my friend Eoh's new boyfriend. And to be honest I didn't want to like him, but he is a good guy. He is from Manchester, England so a very laid back guy that seems to have it together. Good taste in music but more importantly, he makes Eoh happy. She has had her rough patches with guys and relationships. I do wish the best for them.

Pictures were taken and I hope to get to see some of them. I took my camera but forgot the batteries, so I am having to wait and see if Eoh's roommate puts pictures on Flickr.

And now for the obligatory "I hate Valentine's Day" segment of this post. It sucks, it puts pressure on both men and women to show their lovers how special they are on this one day. Why not do that everyday? VD has always sucked for me. In grade school, our teachers told us to get VD card for all of our classmates but I would end up with none, well one but it was from my best friend. Does that even count? And people in the class would get 50 card and we only had 20 or so students in the class, were they sending cards to themselves? And yes, it was mostly the girls who got them cause well guys just don't give VD cards to each other. So were they starting early with the sending of gifts to themselves at an early age? I read somewhere that 50% of women have sent flowers to themselves on VD day or their birthday so it looks like they have someone who sent them flowers. For men, I hear " I have no one to send card or buy flowers etc, woe is me". And no, I will not do the secret admirer thing ever...again. Just set myself up for a big letdown. My Dad once said: "Women pull all the strings when getting together for the first date, if she hasn't made overtones or left you know she is interested in some way, 9 times out of 10, it just ain't going to happen." As a man, we want to impress the ladies but when everything I do does not work I ask, what can I do? I guess impress is not the right word, maybe like me for who I am not what I can get you. And I realize there are asshats out there that lie, cheat do anything they can to get women into bed and see how quick they can get out of there or see how many they can be doing at the same time behind each one of their backs. But women can be lying, cheating asshats also. Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt, t-shirt has holes in it, and scars to prove it. Women: can't live with them, can't live with them. Hell is other people. Yadda, yadda, yadda. And no, I don't mean all women, just the ones I dated, hehe. Of course I have no contact with any of them so what does it matter anyway.

I live by the motto, be good to one another. I try to do that everyday, sometimes I fail, sometimes I succeed. Most of the time I fall somewhere in between but at least I try. So many people just do not care for one reason or the other. Apathy spreads like a virus on a cruise ship. Where has trust gone? Down the shitter? What about respect? Or were all these things told to us by our parents, teachers, clergy, elders as ideals they wanted to see but knew deep in their hearts that they were unobtainable?

I agree that VD day sucks. It def sucks worse when you are single which I seem to be around most VD days.

The party was fun and the worst part is now I want to go to another but do not know of any I can go to.

VD for me has sucked when I was alone and when I was seeing someone. Its one of those days were everyone's expectation are so high that bad things are just bound to happen. Or maybe it is just me.

That was soooo great!!! I have a huge grin on my face too... trying to stop myself from saying 'told you so' ooops, guess i just did... BRILL!!

the sexy swiss girl had me blushing, them euros are so open. luvit. you gotta go to another party, doesnt have to be a swap meet, but def keep up the flirtathon.

I personally find VDay less bummer when im single, i have been more disappointed when ive been in rels and the guy makes no/limited effort than being single and getting nowt.

Joie- More parties would be nice. Where I live there are not many opportunities so they come few and far between.

I think I actually embarrassed her when she said that she was a nudist and I said "well, ok. Go right ahead. We're waiting. She got quiet for a bit but that didn't last long.

My VD this year was no different than the day before. I went to Sonic got two coney with tater tots value meals with vanilla root beer (thanks Anne!) and two hot fudge sundaes, came home, watched TV and ate the food and them played my latest online obsession, Lord of the Rings: Shadows of Angmar, a massive multiplayer online game like WoW and DDO that I have played before. And then went to bed. No point in setting myself up for letdown anymore than I already do.

maybe the solution to going to more parties is to throw one yourself? that's what i do when i feel there's a lull in the party circuit.

don't worry about trying to impress anyone. when you like a girl, it shows. if you make her feel like the only woman in the room, you're doing a good job.

i will stop here before i start leaving posts as comments!
